Gary T. Murphy (GTM)
Gary T. Murphy, known as "GTM," is a self-taught abstract artist whose bold, intricate designs radiate both raw emotion and unfiltered joy. Based in the Dallas area, his work is more than just visual—it’s a visceral experience, a reflection of life’s highs and lows, woven with resilience, loss, and the unwavering hope that emerges from adversity.
Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Gary’s path to artistry was anything but traditional. For nearly three decades, he built businesses—Houston Court Services, Mach 5 Couriers, Arisa Global, 6 Degrees Lounge, and Little Soya—navigating both success and profound challenges. Through it all, art remained his constant, a means of processing loss, heartbreak, and transformation. Before becoming an entrepreneur, Gary worked as a doorman and floor manager at Houston’s legendary nightclubs—Homage, Red Square, 2826, Spy, and M Bar. He also spent a decade as a licensed private investigator, exploring the complexities of human nature. But at his core, he was always a creator. His paintings serve as a narrative of resilience, survival, and hope, using bold colors and intricate layers to evoke deep emotions. “Life is full of challenges,” he says. “If my work brings someone even a moment of joy, I’ve done my job.” A world traveler, Gary has explored China, Japan, Thailand, Europe, and beyond. He’s survived eight near-death experiences, walked the Great Wall of China twice, and once got lost in Shanghai for hours. When not painting, he enjoys cooking, spending time with his pup, Shadow, and being with family. Passionate about bringing happiness into a chaotic world, he uses his art to uplift and inspire. Through every brushstroke, GTM reminds us that even in pain, there is beauty—and even in loss, there is hope. instagram.com Genre: Painting, Abstract |
